The point I’m trying to make (yes, this post has is a point) is, yesterday on MLK Day it was obvious to me that we as people of color still had a slavery thinking frame of mind. We attack those in our community especially women who set records, set examples, and live their dreams, for how they look….

This, and let’s make no confusion, is self-inflicted and sad. It’s as if we feel embarrassed or angry when a black women doesn’t fit into the European standard of beauty…as if we are apologizing for this by tearing these women of character down.

I mean yes would it be nice if Pam had her superficial as tight as her interviews. Maybe wear her hair natural, invest in a bad ass wig,  (I hear the Khloe Kardashian 2013 Ombre Wavy Custom Full Lace Human Hair Wig is the bomb), or find a top-notch weave specialist. But why does a woman as accomplished at what she does best known for a struggle weave? I mean this woman is over 50 and she looks Goddamn amazing (or has no one noticed).

It amazed me when Gabby Douglas accomplished what no other young African-American girl had done, we attacked her hair. C’mon people she lived and trained in the mid-west living with a white family? Why are we mad that our first lady Michelle Obama who is a lawyer who went to Harvard Law is a real woman, and doesn’t have model good looks?

Has it really come to if a women of color doesn’t have a sexy big ass or a tight weave we are attacked (Please note Pam does have a nice ass) regardless of diplomas, our standings in society, or accomplishments?  Not only has Pam Oliver earned exclusive on the field interviews with the biggest sports stars and coaches but she has also taken balls to the head.  No literally (damn, no-one could have yelled heads up?) She is a pioneer for ALL female sportscasters on the field…and amazingly she did it without dating athletes, looking like Jill Marin, Erin Andrews, or wearing a good weave.

I love getting dolled up, I spend a lot on my tracks and always check how my ass looks before I walk out the door, but lets STOP this slavery mentality of tearing down those of us who make it for how they look.  Especially when how they look has nothing to do with what they accomplished. Pam Oliver is not Tahiry from Love & Hip Hop who makes her living by how she looks. Lets hold these very two different women to very different standards. Our daughters are watching!

Instead of creating a Twitter for Pam Oliver’s weave, send Pam Oliver a private email, DM or letter with the name and contact info of a good hairdresser.

So NO I didn’t talk to Pam Oliver and NO I don’t know her response, but I’m going to accept this award on behalf of Pam Oliver and her weave say… F$%#ck y’all! (All as Pam Oliver prepares her exclusive interview with the winning super bowl coach, decide whose summer home she will visit this summer Roger Ailes or Tom and Giselle.)
